Program Overview
There is no question that technology is ever-changing and businesses must adapt to remain viable and productive. With this in mind, the IDCP offers a variety of certificate programs and individual course offerings focusing on cutting edge, emerging technologies including Quantum Computing, Business Analytics, and Running Linux Systems in a z/VM Virtualized Environment.

Quantum Computing
Quantum computers use a fundamentally different architecture than classical digital computers, to solve certain types of problems which lie beyond the capabilities of conventional systems. In recent years, the first practical quantum computers have been constructed, and while still in their early stages they hold great potential to revolutionize the computational landscape.
Bob Sutor, Vice President for the IBM Q Strategy and Ecosystem at IBM Research, explains the IBM Q Quantum Computer:
Quantum computers could spur the development of new breakthroughs in science, life-saving medicines, algorithms to direct traffic in large cities, and provide unprecedented forms of encryption and data security. This course allows students to get in on the ground level of the quantum computer revolution by learning the fundamentals of these new systems while practicing programming a real quantum computer (the IBM Q System, using the open source language Qiskit).
The Introduction to Quantum Computer Algorithms and Programming course provides a technical overview of the fundamental math and physics underlying quantum computers, including entanglement and superposition. We discuss the types of problems best suited to quantum computers, and examples of quantum algorithms such as Deutsch-Josza, Simon, Grover, and Shor algorithms as well as quantum teleportation and cryptography.

Running Linux Systems in a z/VM Virtualized Environment
z/VM is one of the most cost effective platforms for running Linux systems in a virtualized enterprise environment. z/VM provides a centrally managed hosting environment with all the tools needed to define, deploy and operate hundreds of Linux guests natively on the platform with no additional tools. Unlike any other platform, z/VM provides a function rich environment for managing hundreds of Linux guests efficiently from one central location, greatly reducing overall operation costs.
In this class, each student will IPL their own instance of a z/VM system, define a Linux guest and network within that system in the z/VM directory and install and run a SLES 15 SP1 Linux guest.
Topics Covered:
- The concept of virtualization
- z/VM Administration
- Directory Maintenance
- Storage Administration
- Network Administration
- Linux Installation
- System Administrative tasks required to administer a healthy z/VM production system running Linux guests.
Prerequisite: A basic understanding of Linux or zSeries hardware is recommended, but not required.
